Architectural Representation as a Body Without Organs

Architectural representation plays a critical role as a creative tool, facilitating dialogue and mediation between designer and design. While traditionally viewed as an objective entity, it holds potential for creative expression. Architectural representation is traditionally associated with objectivity and aesthetic beauty. However, as a design tool, it should also embrace subjectivity. Subjectivity in architectural representation goes beyond the architect’s style or drawings, encompassing the presence of the subject within the representation. At this stage, architectural representation becomes related to bodily experience and every experience has its own deformations. The presence of bodily deformations in architectural representations transforms its rigid body into a body without organs. This “new” body may be defined as “beast” rather than “beauty.” In this chapter, I would like to discuss architectural representation as a body without organs to highlight its emancipatory and participatory characteristics that may trigger creativity within the context of analogue and digital worlds. I would also like to emphasize the relationship between beauty and monstrosity that a bodily deformed architectural representation may create and start a new discussion on the aesthetics of architectural representation. © 2024 selection and editorial matter, Chara Kokkiou and Angeliki Malakasioti; individual chapters, the contributors.
Breast Lesion Detection From Dce-Mri Using Yolov7

Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer among women. Early diagnosis of breast cancer has vital importance to prevent unexpected losses. A worldwide effort has been made to tackle early detection challenge. Dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging is a superior imaging system that improves breast cancer diagnosis quality of physicians. Computer Aided Diagnosis systems are used as a complementary tool to improve breast cancer diagnosis. In last decades, various computer aided diagnosis systems have been proposed. However, the state-of-the-art deep learning-based approaches have started to overcome conventional medical image processing methods. In this study, we aimed to detect malignant breast lesions from open access dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imagery dataset using most recent YOLOv7 deep learning architecture. 2400 images have been used for training (80%) and testing (20%) of the network. The metrics calculated with the test dataset are 98.54%, 96.42% and 84.40% for mAP@0.50 IoU, mAP@0.75 IoU and mAP, respectively. The results show that YOLOv7 architecture is capable to detect malignant breast lesions from dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance images efficiently. © 2024 Author(s).

Exploring Female Consumers' Attitudes Toward Green Cosmetics

As consumers' interest in green cosmetics and their desire for the presence of natural, eco-friendly ingredients in cosmetic products increase, the green cosmetics market has also grown increasingly. The aim of this study is to examine female consumers' attitudes towards green cosmetics with a qualitative approach. Research data was collected by in- depth interview method and analysed by content analysis. Within the scope of the study, first of all, the packaging preferences of the participants in cosmetic products were examined and how the participants defined green cosmetics was investigated. Then, the themes that positively and negatively affected the participants' attitudes towards green cosmetics were revealed. According to the study results, limited product availability, perception of high price, scepticism, and attitude-behavior gap negatively affect attitudes, while WOM [word of mouth] and social media, emotional value, health consciousness, and price-value image positively affect attitudes. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2024.
